I always have random thoughts about things and tend to write them down in a notebook or journal, so I've decided to take a few of them and share them on this blog assignment.
Sometimes I wonder why I drink or why I ever started. I mean a few of your friends start drinking and then you decide to give it a try. Usually the first thing people try is beer, and wow, is that disgusting at first taste. Even though it may have been gross, you feel more at ease and relaxed; so it becomes a weekend (out of school) ritual. Alcohol has been a part of our culture since the beginning and it tends to be a huge part of college life because it enables people to drop inhibitions, let loose, and just have a good time. Alcohol has been accepted into our culture so freely that it’s just kind of a given that college students will drink; most students start even before college life. I have talked to many people, most of who are my friends, that have chosen not to drink...and most of the time their reasons are because they don't want to end up like some of their relatives (alcoholics) and some because they have just decided its not for them. I guess I've always wondered how different my life would be if I never had a sip of booze; the friends I would have, the change of activities, etc. Since I'm not a continuous drinker I don't feel my life would change to extremely, but some people lives go completely upside down because they can't control their alcohol intake. It's pretty scary and just keeps me aware of what I do.
